Row over housing plans for pub

Plans to convert a Bath pub into flats have provoked concern from two businessmen who wanted to keep it open.

Oldfield Park developer Richard Chapman has applied for permission to turn the Horseshoe at North Road into five flats, after completing the purchase of the building in August.

But there are claims that previous owner Admiral Taverns turned its back on solid interest from Bath firm Four County Inns, which also runs the Royal Oak in Lower Bristol Road.

The move comes as planning permission has been granted to turn the Brains Surgery pub at Larkhall into flats and as several other pubs in the city are up for sale.
