BBC News - Dumfries and Galloway pub used in The Wicker Man on sale

A pub where scenes for the 1973 horror film The Wicker Man were shot has been put up for sale.

In the movie, Ellangowan Hotel in Creetown, near Newton Stewart, was the fictional Green Man pub and had actress Britt Ekland as a barmaid.

Plockton, Ayrshire and Skye also featured in the film starring Edward Woodward and Christopher Lee.

The nine-bedroom hotel in Dumfries and Galloway has been put on the market for offers of about £200,000.

Alistair Letham, a director with selling agents Colliers International, said the property was being offered for sale at a reduced price.

He added: "The Ellangowan attracts a significant number of film fans who visit the area to take in the locations seen in The Wicker Man.

"Sadly, Britt Ekland is no longer working behind the bar, but the visitors to the bar partake in a lot less sacrifice than seen in the film, making it a popular local venue."

Last year, the director of The Wicker Man praised the work of Robert Burns and actor Woodward's Gaelic singing.

Writing exclusively for Empire magazine, Robin Hardy said Burns' Gently Johnny was the "perfect love song" for the film.

Hardy also told of Woodward singing Gaelic songs for the cast and crew in evenings after shoots.
