Health researchers have suggested extending the smoking ban to OUTSIDE bars to stop the increase in "social smoking".The international study, published online in the journal Tobacco Control, said smoking and drinking often go hand in hand.
And, while the prevalence of smoking per se has decreased, social smoking has increased among young adults, say the authors.
Lead author, Professor Janet Hoek, of the University of Otago in New Zealand, said: "Introducing smoke-free outdoors bars could reduce social smoking by removing cues that stimulate this behaviour and changing the environment that facilitates it."
