THE Rose and Crown, at Snettisham, has scored double success with TWO major awards in the 2012 Edition of The Good Pub Guide.
Looking every inch the quintessential English village inn, a long, low, white-washed building, covered in roses and facing the village green and cricket pitch, the Rose and Crown has been named East of England Pub of the Year and Norfolk Dining Pub of the Year.
Owner, Anthony Goodrich, said: “We are thrilled. It is our strategy to keep the Rose and Crown as a pub at heart, but one serving top-class food, and offering great accommodation.
“We have consciously resisted the trend amongst rural pubs to metamorphose into restaurants with bars.”
The Rose and Crown’s widespread reputation for good food is well earned.
All the dishes are prepared by head chef Jamie Clarke and his team using fresh, high-quality ingredients, and taking full advantage of the glorious produce of the area wherever possible, including local game and seafood.
The menu includes traditional pub favourites like spectacular fresh fish and chips, and an outstanding hamburger, as well as more sophisticated dishes.
Built in the 14th century to house the workmen building Snettisham’s famous church, the Rose and Crown has remained a true drinking pub.
Open log fires, well-worn pamment floors and low-beamed ceilings make it a popular meeting place for local people, as well as a haven for those from further away who appreciate good beers, friendly service and the buzz that comes with a proper busy village pub. Says Jeannette Goodrich: “Many of our customers are very sensitive about any changes we might make to the Rose and Crown.
