UK Breweries: Brewery Industry News, Analysis & ReportsUK brewery and pub company shares have suffered "extraordinary underperformance". Many UK brewery and pub trade shares have retreated 50 per cent from their 2007 highs. Several UK pub chains, pubcos and pub companies embracing high-street names such as the Slug and Lettuce, Hogshead and Walkabout, have collapsed or been forced to sell. Industry groups say, in all, about 50 major British breweries have closed since 1990 .
UK breweries and pub companies are now reducing the asking prices of their pubs for sale in an effort to offload unprofitable, distressed, run down, empty or vacant pubs, restaurants, bars and hotels. These reduced property prices are tempting property developers and investors to look at the potential locked up in these prime country, city or town centre locations.
Subject to planning permission and change of use consent being granted, these pubs, restaurants, bars and hotels for sale may be suitable for refurbishment and redevelopment into offices, shops, HMOs, hostels, care homes, restaurants, flats or apartments.

CAMRA: Real Ale - Great British Beer Festival - CAMRA's Good Beer Guide & Awards
The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) is an independent, voluntary, consumer organisation based in St Albans, England, whose main aim is promoting real ale and the traditional British pub. It is now the largest single-issue consumer group in the UK and is a founding member of the European Beer Consumers' Union (EBCU).
CAMRA's campaigns include promoting small brewing and pub businesses, reforming licensing laws, reducing tax on beer, and stopping continued consolidation among local British brewers. It also makes an effort to promote less common varieties of beer and other traditionally brewed beverages including stout, porter, mild, traditional cider, and perry. CAMRA's Good Beer Guide is published every year and they organise local real ale and beer festivals in England, Scotland and Wales and organise Britain's biggest beer festival, The Great British Beer Festival every year at Earls Court and bring together a wide range of real ales, ciders, perries and international beers.
Paramount Magazine provides news, press releases, advertising and marketing from UK pub trade newspapers, publications, periodicals and magazines from the pub, hotel and restaurant industries.

As a property investment or development opportunity, run down, disused or delicensed freehold pubs, bars and hotels are currently under market value and present excellent modernisation and refurbishment opportunities or are suitable for demolition and redevelopment into offices, shops, care homes, restaurants, flats or apartments
In English law, a freehold refers to the the ownership of real property, being the land and all immovable structures attached to such land. This is opposed to a leasehold in which the property reverts to the owner of the land after the lease period has expired. For an estate to be a freehold it must possess two qualities: immobility (property must be land or some interest issuing out of or annexed to land); and ownership of it must be of an indeterminate duration. If the time of ownership can be fixed and determined, then it cannot be a freehold.
